Why did God give us time? Relentlessly the sun peeks over the horizon offering us a gift only God can give…another day. The sun rises and sets and time just continually presses on. No matter what happens on planet earth, always, there will be springtime and harvest, summer and winter such is His promise and His marvelous gift. God gives us time, but most of us insist that there just isn’t enough of it.
We struggle to discern God’s will…and so we try to stuff our will and God’s will into our days and yeah there is not enough time for that.
We are to discern His will and do it, but too many times I hear the excuses slipping out of undisciplined lips….
There’s not enough hours in the day.
We’ve run out of spare minutes.
We won’t be able to do dinner until some time in August…it’s May now. Sorry about that.
This is a busy week. In fact this is a busy month….make that year! Actually I’ve spent my whole life already I haven’t an hour to spend with you.
Is this ^^^ God’s will?
Really?
To spend life mostly on yourself? Fully convinced that the cooking and the laundry and the cleaning and the deadlines have more priority than the people God created and gave His breath.
There is a worldly philosophy at work when we believe that our to-do-lists and plans take precedence over people. When in pride we have over-scheduled and over-planned ourselves to the neglect of our God-given joys to share Christ’s Gospel with the little children entrusted to us and with a whole slew of people we will meet along our way.
It is the enemy’s great lie that you and I don’t have enough time to stop and watch our daughter’s hair float on the breeze and flying wild and free behind her as she runs. It is Satan’s tactic in this day to convince us that our “lofty tasks” will give us worth and honor and praise…we’re seeking commendation that comes from men rather than God. And it is folly and it is sin. Most of us will have need to repent of this false belief at one point or another, but my hope is that we can all choose to live a life that demonstrates that the incomparable worth of Christ, revealing that the heart of our God beats for His people.
And yeah I hope you clean your home too, that’s important. And yeah you still have to cook meals but maybe next time you can invite someone along who doesn’t have a lot of money or a lot of friends to join in with you and your family. Maybe we can open up our lives and invite someone to see the wondrous hand of our God at work in our days. Maybe we can look at our children and really see and enjoy how God is making them. Maybe we don’t have to miss life for all our busyness…maybe we just need to break through the trapping lies of the world system and seek our God.
We have enough time. That is not our problem. The issue is whether or not we have been in the presence of God, in the Word of God enough to discern what in the world He really wants us to do.
