Sometimes kids are sick without end, sometimes you just don’t get “the list” remotely sorted, sometimes the hours in the day seem to tick by too eagerly, and we’re left at the end of the day or week or month or year wondering if we did all the right things. Considering whether or not we repented of those attitudes that sneak in and spoil the fruit of our lives, the sin that robs the day of its joy? The Lord knows we do not want to take our rotten sin into a new dawn. The waves of exhaustion roll over our bodies, threatens to crush our hearts, but if we cast ourselves deeper into Jesus, right then everything gets lighter.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:29
Take His yoke upon you and your burden gets easier… the weight of everything lifted. Jesus can handle everything…? Do we believe that? Do we let Him handle our all? How do we let Him? How do we let Him into this… into all our sleepy-eyed, worn thin, brimming full world? How do you make space for God? Then again maybe that isn’t the exact right question…
The thing is God is in every space. The fancy word for that is omnipresent. God is everywhere. He is preeminent, over everything and in Him everything holds together. Yes, in Him we live and move and have our being. We have our being, because God is. We don’t ever really make space for God, we just acknowledge that He is already in our every space. We confess that He is the reason we exist, that He is our very breath, our life, and everything. It’s not so much whether or not you have time for God so much as realizing that God created you and placed you in time and gives you time that you might know Him.
Everything gains clarity when we understand that we aren’t supposed to be making space for God, we are supposed to be consumed with Him, because God is already here, in every space, whether we welcome Him or not.
He is everything.
Sleepy days, ordinary days, trying days, confusing days will come, and this is how we make it. We realize and believe that God is everything, and if we take Him as our gift, the grace of it all will make everything lighter and easier even if it is hard, really hard. So, you can have strength to snuggle that precious kid for the millionth glorious time…. So, you can welcome others into your home even when you maybe don’t feel like it… So, you can respect a husband and build him up happily again and then again… So, you can do everything God created you to do, because everything you are rests on all that He is.
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.
This is becoming one with God. This is becoming the Bride, and it’s the happiest lightest way to live even when it’s hard.
