The way my children wrap their fingers around my hand, the unbridled pure belly laughter that erupts from their souls, the sound of three voices mingling in happy chatter… These are the sounds of motherhood I love most. They are the most welcomed. There are other familiar sounds too the sputtering mess of a tantrum, the tongue running rampant without kindness, the cries of a souls still learning to wait, still wrestling to believe that patience isn’t a burden to bear but a place where faith grows best. Maybe I am talking more about myself than my children. They inherited sin from us after all and learn all our ways, such a fearful wondrous thought. In everything there is thanks to be given, grace to be had, and repentance to be made. And don’t miss this incredible fact, there is joyful . There is immeasurable happiness to be had, because we are blessed.
The definition is inescapable, blessed means Happy.
And happiness is never about having things or having your own way, it is about experiencing life with those who lives wrap around ours and make our lives what they are. Happiness is delighting in God together; that’s the epitome of it for us.
Tears fall sometimes, because life is impossibly hard. The cold hearted are the ones who never cry, never blink back a tear for all the hurt in this world, for all the pain our sin inflicts on others, and I feel most sorry for them. They miss love and are robbed of repentance. In this world there can be joy and happiness and tears too. God blessing keeps us steady through it all; that’s joy.
So, for all your hard pulling out your hair sort of days (knowing smile), and for all the days your heart could just burst with unending delight, for every single day with all its inherent difficulty, there is God. He is in everything and most of all let Him live in you. Jesus our Savior didn’t just die to save us from hell, truly faith in Him saves us from such a fate. Jesus saving power comes and saves us from lives of cynicism, selfishness, mediocrity, depression, anxiety, and every other way sin turns us upside down. Could you dare to consider that He saves us to make us happy in Himself, to make us glad with His presence, that we might delight in our God. This never ceasing miracle is for all of us. Perhaps the most stunning picture in childhood is that we have become children, in Christ, children of God and do you know that He delights in you?
